December 26, 2016
Rajkot: In the largest recovery of fake currency in new Rs 500 and Rs 2000 denomination, the Crime Branch of Rajkot police today seized such notes worth over Rs 26 lakh in Rajkot city of Gujarat and nabbed two persons of an Ahmedbabad based gang in this connection, Commissioner of Police Anupam Gehlot said.
Addressing a press conference here today Mr Gehlot said that based on a tip off the crime branch sleuths recovered 1300 fake notes of Rs 2000 and 20 fake notes of Rs 500 hidden inside the music system box of an Indica car near Hanuman Garhi.
Two persons Hriday M Jalani, a native of Gondal and ex employee of a printing press, who currently lived in Bopal of Ahmedbad and was in to CCTV business and Laxman Chauhan, resident of Kutch living in Ahmedabad and was in to garment business, were nabbed from the car. They had brought the notes to deliver some-one here. One colored printing machine has also been recovered from them.
The notes were made in such a manner that most of the people won’t even recognize it. They had even put State Bank tag on them.
Mr Gehlot said that in the primary interrogation the duo has revealed that one Jignesh Shah resident of Botad currently in Land business in Ahmedabad was their master mind who use to look for customers for exchange of fake notes. They use to print notes only after getting ‘order’ of sorts from ‘customers’.
‘They used to exchange old note with the new ones for one is to 2 rate that is they gave 2 fake note in lieu of one genuine note. They also were probably in to commission taking in lieu of exchange of scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes,’ he said adding that the case was being investigated.
Efforts were on to nab the master-mind, his other accomplices and those for whom they had brought the notes and supplied earlier, he said.
