Fake notes worth over Rs 68 lakh deposited in banks of Ahmedabad post demonetization

Ahmedabad: Fake notes worth around Rs 68.46 lakhs have been deposited in various banks of Ahmedabad city post demonetization, ACP crime branch B C Solanki today said.
Of the total 10150 counterfeit notes 4766 were of Rs 1000, 3869 of Rs 500, 1505 of Rs 100, 17 of Rs 50, 1 of Rs 20 and 2 of Rs 10, he said.
Most of the fake notes were deposited in private banks like ICICI, HDFC and Axis bank. The matter was being investigated.
During 2016 a total of Rs 2.09 crore worth of fake notes were deposited in the banks of the city. This amount was Rs 2.54 crore in 2015 and 2.58 crore in 2014 while in 2013 it was 9.53 crore. Rs 3.28 crore worth of fake notes were deposited in banks in the city in 2012 and Rs 6.93 crores in the year before ie 2011.
