No early assembly polls in Gujarat, Congress spreading rumours:CM Rupani

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today ruled out any possibility of early assembly polls in the state.

He also alleged that the rumours about early elections were being spread by the leaders of main opposition Congress with a motive.

Talking to newsmen here Rupani said,’ I don’t believe that the elections in the state would be held early. It is not possible. The election will he held at its due time.’

He said that Congress leaders were spreading rumours about early election with the motive to keep their demoralized cadres somehow active.

‘They are spreading the rumours about early election with the hope that the party workers would remain active. Many of them will do so under a temptation to get tickets etc,’ the Chief Minister said.

Notably, assembly poll in Gujarat is due to be held in the end of this year. The speculations about the possibility of an early election were doing the rounds in the political circles in the wake of recent electoral successes of ruling BJP. Recently AICC general secretary and in-charge of party affairs in Gujarat Gurudas Kamat had also said that BJP’s tall claims of victory of its supported candidates in village panchayat polls indicates that there can be early polls and his party was ready for it even if it is held in February, March or April.
