Ahmedabad: After seizure of 700 banned Chinese lanterns (Tukkal) by crime branch of Ahmedabad police from Gomtipura area, over 2000 such Tukkals were also recovered from a go-down in neighbouring Kalupur area last night.
PI of Kalupur M D Upadhyay today said that 2070 Tukkal and 45 banned Chinese Manja were recovered from a go-down in Tanksal road. ‘The Tukkal and Manja was bought by a staff of a businessman and the owner of the go-down last year before ban was imposed on their sale. He had kept it in hiding without the knowledge of his master for sale during Uttarayan this year. He has been nabbed. The valuation of the seized items is around Rs 47 thousand,’ the PI said.
Earlier the crime branch had recovered 700 Chinese Tukkals from Pathani Chali area of Gomtipura yesterday.
Notably owing to incidents of fire caused by Tukkals and deaths of birds, animals and human beings due to sharp Chienes Manja, these were banned by the Gujarat High Court a year ago.
