Banning movement of rickshaws in peak hours solves traffic congestion problem on busy road
January 17, 2017
Surat: Chronic traffic issue on Rajmarg road of Surat has been successfully resolved by banning the movement of rickshaws here.
City police commissioner had earlier banned cars movement on Rajmarg during peak hours, however after protest by people, the decision was changed and only rickshaws movement was prohibited in peak hours on this road during 10-12 am and 5-7 pm.
The situation of traffic has absolutely improved after this decision. On Monday, a small group claiming to represent a small-time political outfit met Police Commissioner, demanding that four-hour long ban on rickshaws should be lifted on Rajmarg. However the Police Commissioner clearly said that rickshaws cause traffic problem and without rickshaws traffic situation has improved.
