January 23, 2017
Ahmedabad: Gujarat is witnessing ‘unusually’ high temperatures for this period of winter season with deviations of over 5 degrees above normal and not even a single place showing the single digit minimum temperature.
The maximum temperature at most the places remained over 30 degree Celsius with Surat recording the highest of 35.8 degree C, 5 degree above normal, in this regard.
The lowest minimum temperature across the state was recorded at 11.2 degree C at Naliya, which had remained the coldest many times this season with single digit temperatures till recently. The minimum temperature there which remained substantially below normal in the last fortnight was just normal today.
Ahmedabad recorded a maximum and minimum of 33.6 and 17 degree which were 5.3 and 4.8 degrees above normal respectively. The abnormally high temperatures have made people shed their winter wears at least during the day time when a brisk walk in woolens is causing sweating.
Met Department has attributed a cyclonic circulation induced by an atmospheric disturbance over North East Afghanistan for it and has predicted the weather to remain like this till at least January 27.
Director of the Ahmedabad Met Center Jayanta Sarkar today said that the cyclonic circulation induced by the disturbance over North East Afghanistan has caused the temperatures to go up. ‘It will remain like this till at least January 27 after which the temperatures are likely to come down again.’
He also ruled out any possibility of rain in Gujarat in the coming few days. ‘There will be rain in Northern states of J &K, Himachal Pradesh and even Delhi but there is no likelihood of it in Gujarat,’ he said.
