February 16, 2017
Gandhinagar: The national commission for women (NCW) team, which is on a ‘pre scheduled’ two day visit of Gujarat, is holding quarterly review meetings with police officials and other concerned to review the progress of various cases pertaining to crimes against women.
After a meeting of the team here with the in-charge DGP P P Pandey and other senior police officials, Mr Alok Rawat, the member of NCW (who happens to be the first ever male member of the commission after his appointment in October 2015), told newsmen that the visit was a pre scheduled one and not in the wake of any particular incident.
‘It is for the quarterly review of pending criminal cases against women. It was a pre scheduled one and was planned way back in December last year,’ he said.
‘We had discussions on many issues but the most important one was pertaining to the acid attacks. We have also received several suggestions. Other issues also came up for discussion,’ Mr Rawat said.
The team later also held a meeting with Ahmedabad police commissioner and other senior cops in the circuit house in Shahibaug area there.
The team is learnt to have seen the progress report of over two dozen acid attack cases and also gave directions to police in this regard.
