Ahmedabad: At least 15 gas cylinders blasted in a fire in the kitchen of a private caterer situated inside the premises of a residential society in New Ranip area of the city this morning.
Fortunately no loss of life or major damage to any other property took place in the incident which left 3 to 4 residents with minor burn injuries during their attempt to douse the fire at their own.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer P S Parmar said that there were 20 to 22 gas cylinders in the kitchen of Khodiyar caterers situated in a shed like structure along the outer wall of the Dharti Heaven society in the side margin area.
‘Perhaps the fire started owing to gas leakage or some other reason and it spread quickly. Those inside the kitchen ran away. We got a call at around 0830 am. Owing to conitinious blast in cylinders the outer wall fell down. There is an open area after the outer wall. Our 3 fire fighting vehicles extinguished the fire quickly,’ he said.
The sound of blast however left the residents of the society in terror. Three or four of them including the chairman of the society sustained minor burn injuries in attempt to douse the fire before the fire fighters team arrived there. Two or three closeby flats have sustained some damage.
Mr Parmar said that all the 15 filled up cylinders had blasted and the around half a dozen empty ones though did not blast yet have been damaged badly and were not usable anymore.
The incident is also being investigated by the police.
