Rs 2000 notes worth 57 lakh seized by Rajkot police turn out to be fake

Rajkot: The Rajkot police has seized fake currency notes of Rs 2000 denominations worth around Rs 57 lakh from a self styled financier here.

Police had recovered over 2800 notes of Rs 2000 during a search in the office of one Ketan Dave, who runs a financing office in Gondal road here. He and his partner Sailesh Barvadiya had made a local scarp merchant Nitin Ajani RTGS Rs 50 lakh to a private courier firm (Pedhi) in Ahmedabad. They had assured him of payment in cash and showed him a bag filled with Rs 2000 notes.

When they did not pay the money, the scrap merchant filed a case of cheating against them in the A-division police station which during investigation in search found the bag in the office of Dave and on suspicion sent the Rs 2000 notes kept in it to the Forensic Science Lab for test.

Now it has come to fore that the most of the notes worth around 57 lakh 16 thousand were fake printed using a quality printer. Only six notes were found to be genuine. During investigation Dave has informed that the fake notes were provided to him by a man from Ahmedabad.

Meanwhile the money transferred through RTGS in intact in the account of the courier firm and the police has approached the bank to stop the payment.

Interestingly, fake notes worth around Rs 26 lakh were recovered in December last year from Rajkot which were brought from Ahmedabad.
