Residents of Meda village of Sabarkantha district Bhikha Bhambhi (42) and Haresh Patel (34) were nabbed from a car near the bus stand in Chandkheda.
Cash worth Rs 8.72 lakh in demonetized Rs 500 and 1000 notes were found in their vehicle. They could not give a satisfactory reply about the source of the notes.
Altogether 5 persons were nabbed with scrapped Rs 1000 and 500 notes worth over 41 lakhs from two places in the city on February 10 and 9 while Rs 8 lakhs worth of such notes were recovered on Februry 3.
In three of the four cases the scarpped notes were brought from North Gujarat for exchange.
The 4 incidents of recovery of scrapped notes have taken place at a time when such seizures are a rarity post over 3 months since demonetization of such notes.
Now such notes can only be exchanged via RBI offices. And frequent recovery of such notes in Ahmedabad also indicates towards the possibility of some foul play in the exchange of notes.
