March 07, 2017
Gandhinagar: Gujarat minister of state for home Pradeepsinh Jadeja today said that Anti Terrorist Squad and Crime Branch are jointly investigating the matters of extortion calls in the name of underworld don Ravi Pujari and even member of ruling BJP have also received such threat calls.
Meanwhile the Gandhinagar police has asked for the voice sample of Pujari from the crime branch of Mumbai police for matching it with the one of the threat calls to Congress members and others.
Police has also not ruled out the possibility of it being a call by some mischief-maker using a technique of computer with which an inland call can be shown as a call done from outside the country and which make the tracing of the location of the call very difficult.
Jadeja, who had earlier assured the Congress members of all the security if sought, during his reply on the issue raised by leader of opposition Shankersinh Vaghela in the Gujarat assembly, later told newsmen in the assembly premises that two people have been nabbed in connection with such threat calls to BJP members.
‘We have also got a red corner notice of the inter-pol issued for Pujari and various central agencies were also working towards it. Gujarat ATS and crime branch were also working on it. There is no need of panic for any commoner or MLA in this matter,’ he said.
Vaghela on the other hand claimed that a threat SMS and calls seeking Rs 10 crore as extortion money failing which consequences like Borsad corporator Pragnesh Patel (who was shot at by Pujrari’s henchmen in January) was threatened, was received by Godhara Cong MLA C K Raulji today while he was in assembly.
He said that senior MLA Shaktisinh Gohil, woman MLA Chandrikaben Bariya, Amit Chavda, nephew of MLA Maramanbhai Goria, Romilbhai, Party In-charge and AICC general secretary Gurudas Kamat and several other MLA’s had also received such calls from various foreign originated numbers. Vaghela demanded quick action in to the matter terming it a serious thing.
On the other hand BJP MLA from Bharuch today raised question about the timing of such calls suspecting falsehood of Congress behind it with an intention to create controversy on the occasion of PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the state.
Notably earlier many businessmen and other eminent persons including GCMMF MD R S Sodhi had also received such calls and the matters are still under investigation.
