104 were killed in Navnirman, 79 in Anamat agitation during Congress rule: Nitin Patel

Gandhinagar: Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe reservation was brought by Congress government but Other Backward Class(OBC) reservation was given by non-Congress governments, said deputy chief minister Nitin Patel in the assembly on Thursday. Patel further said, during the Congress government in 1973, 104 youths were killed in Navnirman agitation against Chimanbhai Patel while 79 were killed in 1984-85 in Anamat agitation against Madhavsinh Solanki. Patel was responding to a bill, opposition Congress party proposed to move for 20% reservation to economically backward class over and above 49% reservation quota which is in existence presently. Patel said Congress first should give such reservation in the states where it is in power.
