March 12, 2017
Junagadh: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani while speaking at Vanthali in Junagadh district said his government will enact a harsher law for life term to those involded in cow-slaughtering and transportation of beef.
Rupani was addressing a gathering at Swaminarayan Gurukul after inaugurating new buildings of school and colleges. He reminded that it was the BJP government that had in 2011 brought the law to protect cows after fighting the case till the Supreme Court. Now, for even stricter law, a bill will be moved in the ongoing Budget session of the Gujarat assembly next week. While the present Gujarat Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act of 2011, imposes a total ban on bovine slaughter, transportation and selling of cow-beef, and provides Rs 50,000 fine and a jail term upto seven years, the new bill will have provision for life imprisonment for cow-slaughtering and transportation.Vehicles used in the crime will be attached on permanent basis.
