Vadodara police trying to nab 3 frauds for duping Rs 22.50 lakhs by exchanging fake notes meant for playing of children

Vadodara: The Vadodara police was trying to nab 3 frauds who had duped a local, who himself was indulged in making easy money by earning commission on scrapped Rs 500/1000 notes, of Rs 22.50 lakhs by exchanging fake notes meant for playing of children, during the demonetization in December last year.

PSI of Gotri police station, where the case was recently lodged, K P Jadeja today said that Zakir Abdul Lateef, Khalid Rasool and Javed, all three residents of Tandlaj had handed over fake Rs 1000 notes of 30 lakh with ‘Children Bank of India’ printed on it instead of Reserve Bank of India to one Surendrasinh Chauhan a resident of Gorwa area on December 26. The notes were kept in a bag. They had claimed these to be demonetized Rs 1000 notes and took Rs 22.50 lakhs of valid currency in Rs 2000 and Rs 100 denominations from Chauhan in lieu of if after feigning to pay Rs 7.5 lakhs in commission for the exchange.

PSI Jadeja said that Surendra noticed the fake notes soon after they left and tried to negotiate with them himself fearing that he would also face legal action if he complained to the police. But when the trio did not return his money he filed the case two days back.

‘We are trying to nab the three frauds,’ he said adding that so far no case has been registered against the complainant for his illegal act of exchanging currency during demonetization.
