GSHSEB chairman terms English paper leak a ‘limited’ area affair, rules out possibility of cancellation of exam

Gandhinagar: Terming the circulation of today’s paper of English of class 10 board exam on social media as a ‘limited’ one, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) categorically ruled out the possibility of the paper being cancelled.

Chairman of the board A J Shah accepted that the leaked paper was similar to the one circulated on whatsapp.

Though this leak has raised some questions about security arrangements and the claims of ‘foolproof’ security for the exam being attended by lakhs (around 11 thousand to be precise) of students, yet the Chairman played it down saying it was a limited area leak.

‘The paper was as per our information went viral on social media at least 15-20 minutes after the commencement of the paper today. Which means it was no leak at all. The paper was already in the hands of the examinees by the time it was circulated on the social media. Also it was in a limited area of Mahisagar district only. If one student or some-one with a mobile phone had circulated it that too after the start of the exam, though it calls for an inquiry and arrest of the culprit and even more increased vigil yet it does not mean that the exam is cancelled ,’ Shah said.ignoring the fact that the knowledge of an ongoing paper to the outside people was not a simple thing and that the one with whose electronic gadget it was circulated could also have used the gadget for malpractice.

The board chairman said that the DEO of Mahisagar has lodged a police complaint in this regard and the matter would be probed.
He again elaborated on the foolproof security arrangement despite which the paper was photographed and put on the social media.

Earlier on the first day of the board exam (both class 10 and 12 commenced simultaneously on March 15), a rumour of leak of the class 12 general stream’s paper of accounts on social media spread quickly however it was found to be false as the paper on the social media was fake.
