Leaving behind drubbing in Goa, Punjab, AAP to contest all 182 seats in Gujarat
March 26, 2017
Gandhinagar: Leaving behind the ‘drubbing’ in Goa and Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will field its candidates on all the 182 seats in the Gujarat Assembly polls this year.
A senior party leader, who was here to participate in the workers meet of the party for the preparation for polls due to be held by December this year, said informed this.
He said that APP would contest all the seats in Gujarat.
‘Our performance in the recently held assembly polls in Punjab and Goa was no doubly weak but it looked more so because of our higher expectations. In fact in Punjab we have risen from zero to grab the main opposition party status in the assembly. Now we also hold the leader of opposition post. It is also no less an achievement,’ he said.
He accepted that the below-expectation performance has disappointed the cadres but claimed that looking at the results trend the party was upbeat about Gujarat.
‘In the results there was a clear-cut trend of anti-incumbency factor and the same applies for Gujarat too. Here we expect the people to vote against the government and we hope to fare better,’ he said.
To a query he said that corruption, issues of farmers, unemployment etc would be main poll plank for the party.
Notably in the past AAP had contested all the 26 seats of Loksabha in 2014 general elections but could not win even a single one. AAP supremo and Delhi CM has abstained from today’s workers’ meet meant for discussing various issue related to Gujarat polls and strengthening of party organization.
