Strike of resident doctors in Ahmedabad civil hospital called off

Ahmedabad: The strike of resident doctors of Ahmedabad civil hospital in Asarwa area of the city which had crippled the medical services in the prestigious medical institution since yesterday has been called off today.

The strike prompted by an alleged attack on some of the resident doctors by the family members and relatives of a patient, was later also joined by their counterparts of AMC run V S Hospital.

The strike of around 700 such junior doctors was called off after the arrest of one of the attackers and detention of 4 suspects and assurance from the police about setting up of a police- post near the trauma center in the hospital premises which often witnesses such incidents.

Superintendent of the hospital M Prabhakar said that apart from setting up of the police post, it has also been agreed upon to deploy armed policemen at important points.

DCP of Zone 4, who participated in the negotiations to end the strike, on the other hand said that one attacker had been nabbed under section 334 of the IPC (attack on a government official) and other sections pertaining to snatching the chain of doctor. Four other suspects have also been detained.

A representative of the resident doctors said that they were satisfied with the solution reached during the meeting between police, administration and hospital management. ‘We have ended our strike,’ he said.

Meanwhile, with the calling off of the strike the medical services in the hospital are returning to normalcy.
