Surgical scissors remained in woman’s stomach for 5 yrs due to negligence of doctors

Ahmedabad/Bhuj: In a case of serious negligence by the doctors of Civil Hospital in Ahmedabd, which other-wise is at times depicted in comic scenes of the movies, an around 4 inch long surgical scissors has been operated out of the stomach of a woman.

Putting a question mark on the so called prestigious medical institution in the country, the details of the incident is somewhat horrifying.

An around 50 year old lady Jeeviben Chauhan, a native of Kutch district, was operated in the hospital way back in 2012 for some malaise causing pain in her stomach. It was at that time that the surgical scissors was left in her stomach after the operation.

Later she was discharged from the hospital but the pain in her stomach did not vanish. When she complained of it to the doctors, they just took it lightly and said that it was owing to the operation and would go at its own in a few days.

The days went longer and Jeeviben had to bear the pain for around five long years. Later she went to a hospital in Gandhidham where during x-ray the scissors was detected inside her stomach.

Now, though she has been operated and doing well and the doctors are saying that no big harm has been done to her owing the scissors lying in her body for such a long time, yet the question remains as to what punitive measure should be taken against the doctors who always complain about patient’s misbehaviour and go on a flash strike leaving many in difficult situation.

The hospital management has not started any inquiry of the case so far to fix the responsibility of the sheer negligence.
