Gujarat CM distributes appointment letters to 3,000 of 11,563 candidates in Panchayat Department
April 10, 2017
Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today called upon the newly appointed youths joining the State Government’s Panchayat Department in different cadres to work with a humanitarian compassionate positive approach to let the people feel the administrative machinery’s vibrancy.
He said the next generation is best equipped to change the government’s stereotyped lackadaisical and image to build a New India as envisioned by the Prime Minister. As responsive government servants, they should change the government servants’ usual impression of negative image.
Mr. Rupani was speaking at a function to mark distribution of appointment letters to about 3,000 out of 11,563 selected candidates at Mahatma Mandir here. The remaining 8,000-odd candidates would be given appointment letters in 28 other district headquarters in due course.
He described the youths joining the Panchayat Department as the extended hands of the government, expected to compassionately listening to the problems and needs of the people and provide solutions rising above parochialism. The applicants sitting in remote areas should be preferably heard at their doorsteps itself. The government’s ‘Seva Setu’ scheme has also brought about change in this direction, settling about 35-lakh cases.
Welcoming the selected candidates, Deputy Chief Minister Nitinbhai Patel said that 55 per cent of the population lived in villages and there being numerous schemes for the villages, the villagers’ problems should best solved at the village-level itself. He said that the Vijay Rupani Government has been marching ahead with ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’ good governance, leaving a surplus of Rs,11,500-crore in the State’s Treasury in 2016-17. This is even after implementing Seventh Pay Commission recommendations in this year’s budget of Rs.175,000-crore. While 55 per cent of the expenditure is on services, the remaining 45 per cent on government servants salary.
Mr. Patel said that Gujarat Government has initiated several steps to improve employment, like creating a waiting list, trying to post applicants nearer their homes. The government is contemplating to charge Rs.3-lakh bonds.
Minister of State for Panchayat Jayantibhai Kavadia said the government has increased the waiting list from 10 to 20 per cent.
Gujarat Seva Pasandgi Board Chairman Naresh Shah said that 1,794 candidates were selected in 12 cadres and 9,796 in five cadres, selection held under CCTV cameras and live recordings at all centres.
Principal Secretary Panchayat Rajgopal said that 18-lakh candidates appeared at 62,415 rooms in 6120 centres in 33 districts at the examination conducted by the Panchayat Board.
