Gujarat Congress claims victory in 69% gram panchayats

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Congress today claimed that candidates supported by Congress party had been victorious in more than 860 gram panchayats. State Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi ridiculed Gujarat BJP chief Jitu Vaghani’s claim that BJP had won 80% gram panchayats. He said Congress supported candidates have been victorious at 64% places in Saurashtra, 78% in North Gujarat, 68% in Central Gujarat and 62 in South Gujarat – thus total more than 69% gram panchayats.

Gram panchayat elections are contested without party symbols, therefore all major parties routinely claim victories after every gram panchayat polls season.
