Mumbai Court issues second NBW against Vaghani in Cheque bounce case
April 12, 2017
Ahmedabad: A court in Mumbai has issued a non-bailable warrant against Gujarat BJP president and MLA Jeetu Vaghani in connection with the ‘dishonoring’ of a cheque issued by him.
Vaghani as one of the owner partner of Iva Group of Companies, which had brought a steel factory and its land in August 2010 at Rs 10.84 crore during an auction on high court order, and later sold the same to one Novelty Power Infratech company of Mumbai at a higher price, had taken Rs 3 crore advance of the deal from the company.
Later owing to legal issues related to the title of the land the second deal was cancelled and the Mumbai based company asked Vaghani and other partners to return the money. The cheque of Rs 24 lakh issued as first installment bounced.
The metropolitan court in Mumbai had issued bailable warrants twice in this matter. Vaghani and his partners had moved to appellate court which did not give him any respite.
The metropolitan court in Bandra had also issued a non bailable warrant under the section 138 (read with 141) of the Negotiable Instrument Act earlier on, in connection with which the Mumbai police had gone to Bhavnagar in search of Vaghani on April 2 and 3. But it returned empty handed as Vaghani was not present at his residence there.
Now, the same court has issued another NBW addressed to the Gujarat DGP.
The warrant was received at the DGP office today.
Main opposition congress has made it an issue while the BJP said that the amount due has been paid to the party.
