Govt. files recall petition in Rajkot court against summon asking for CM Rupani’s presence before it

Rajkot: The Gujarat government has reportedly filed a petition to recall the summon issued by a local court here yesterday for Chief Minister Vijay Rupani asking him to personally appear before it on April 19, the next date of hearing, in an around two decade old case filed by Mr Rupani himself.

A senior official today said that after taking legal opinion the petition has been filed. It is likely to be taken up for hearing on April 19 itself.

The court of additional session judge R D Mehta, hearing the case filed by Rupani in 1997 against the then Rashtriya Janata Party leaders Kashyap Shukla (Son of Late BJP stalwart Late Chimanbhai Shukla), Vijay Chauhan and others for allleged stone-pelting on his residence in Paras Society in Nirmal Convent Road here, issued the summons yesterday. Rupani had not appeared in the court on many occasions.
In those days clashes between Shankersinh Vaghela led RJP and BJP members were common. Kashyap and others had pelted stone on Rupani’s residence after he returned from a campaign against Vaghela in Radhanpur constituency.

With the filing of the summon recall petition it is most likely that Rupani would not make appearance in the court on April 19 despite coincidentally, his likely presence in his home-town Rajkot on that day.

The main accused is now in BJP. His father Late Chimanbhai Shukla was one of the founder members of JanSangh ( predecessor of BJP) who had contested and won the first seat for JanSangh in Saurashtra in 1952 from Rajkot.Shukla’s Rajkot residence had been a host to many BJP stalwarts including Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L K Advani.
