Schools are not permitted sell books, school bags, uniform etc directly or through desired agency: Chudasama

Gandhinagar: Self financed schools will not be able to sell books, stationary, school dress, shoes, school bags etc directly or through desired agency as per an order issued by the State government.

According to education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama and minister of state for education Nanubhai Vanani, the State government has taken a decision to ban selling of books, stationary, bags, uniforms in CBSE school campuses directly or through desired vendors indirectly. Similarly all schools affiliated to Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board will need to ensure that schools don’t sell books, stationary, school dress, shoes, books etc. If any school is found involved in such activity, it will face action. District Education Officers are asked to implement the decision.

Chudasama said all schools are asked to stay away from commercial activities and just focus on giving education. As per 1 July 2011 decision taken by government, schools need to function as per a model code of conduct which suggests that schools can not insist or compel parents to purchase specific types of books, literature, uniform, shoes etc from specific agency.
