Gujarat govt will study Yogi cabinet decision regarding cancellation of holidays

Gandhinagar:

Gujarat government might also follow the step of Adityanath Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh regarding cancellation of public holidays on the occasion of birth/death anniversaries of eminent personalities.

State General Secretary of ruling BJP, K C Patel today said that there was nothing wrong in cancellation of such holidays. ‘The Yogi government has cancelled the holidays but Instead, students in schools and colleges would now be taught about them on these days. It is a much better thing than just observing a holiday on that day,’ he said.

‘So far as Gujarat is concerned, here we don’t have so many holidays on the death/birth anniversaries of eminent personalities. Even then the decision of the Yogi cabinet will be studied and appropriate good practices will be adopted. There is no harm in adopting good practices or other steps. It has been done in the past too,’ Patel said replying to a query about whether it would be followed in Gujarat also.

He, however, clarified that as unlike UP, Gujarat has much less such holidays, even if the step is implemented, it would not have any big effect.

Notably, earlier this month Yogi government through its cabinet decision cancelled 15 public holidays which marked the birth or death anniversary of eminent personalities.
