May 14, 2017
Gandhinagar: Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) has started purchasing power from open market following reduced supply by private power producers.GUVNL has been purchasing around 625 MW daily from power exchanges.
Regular suppliers Essar Power Gujarat Ltd(EPGL) and Tata group’s Coastal Gujarat Power Ltd(CGPL) who have signed long term power purchase agreements with GUVNL have curtailed supply citing technical grounds. Adani Power Ltd(APL) has discontinued 1250 MW supply citing viability reasons as Indonesian coal has gone costlier. It’s worth noting here that the Supreme Court had turned down plea of power producers seeking hike in tariff. GUVNL purchases 15 million units(MOs) from open market and rest from state-run power plants against daily shortage of 24-30 MUs due to shortfall in the Adani supply.
