Dawood Ibrahim ‘aide’ Mamumiya Panjumiya walks out of jail after 13 years
May 15, 2017
Porbandar: Umar Ismail Bukhari alias Mamumiya Panjumiya — alleged aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim — who was in jail since his deportation from Dubai and subsequent arrest in 2004 in connection with the sensational Gosabara and Valsad RDX landing cases of 1993, today walked out of prison here after 13 years following completion of legal formalities post getting bail in all the 11 cases against him.
The Gujarat High Court on Apr 28 this year had granted bail to him in connection with an arms haul case lodged in Ahmedabad in 1993. This had paved way for Mamumiya to come out of jail for the first time after he was arrested in 2004, and subsequently in various others cases, including the Gosabara, Valsad RDX/arms landing case in which he was later acquitted.
He could have come out of the special prison here two days ago but as a Jamnagar court refused to issue his release order in a case pertaining to arms act owing to technical reasons , his release was delayed. He had approached the high court again in this matter after which he was released from the jail this evening.
There were a total of 11 cases lodged against him including the Gosabara and Valsad RDX/arms landing cases and three cases under Arms Act in Ahmedabad, Porbandar and Jamnagar.
He was booked under TADA in the Gosabara and Valsad RDX landing case which the prosecution has claimed that was part of conspiracy hatched by Dawood Ibrahim in Dubai to avenge the demolition of Barbri Mosque in Ayodhya. Arms and RDX were landed on the coast of Gosabara and Valsad for use in Mumbai serial blasts. He had allegedly fled to Dubai after the blasts. He was extradited from there by Maharashtra police in November 2014 and was later handed over to Gujarat police for trial. But he was acquitted in the cases by designated TADA courts later.
