Atmospheric Humidity quite high across Gujarat owing to changed wind pattern:Met Director

Gandhinagar: The change in wind pattern has suddenly increased atmospheric humidity across Gujarat but there was no chance of early pre-monsoon showers owing to it, Director of Ahmedabad met center and senior meteorologist Jayanta Sarkar said today.

‘Owing to change in wind direction the relative humidity has become quite high. In coastal areas it is around 75 to 80% while in the inland parts it was 70%,’ he said.

The wind which was flowing from North Westerly direction earlier bringing dry heat from desert area of neighbouring Rajasthan has changed course and was flowing from South Westerly to Westerly direction bringing moisture from the sea.

Sarkar said that despite increase in humidity (moisture – bhej in Gujarati), there won’t be any rain in the state in next five days.

He also said that increase in moistness in the air won’t necessarily give relief to people. ‘The temperatures across the state would remain 1 to 4 degree Celsius above normal during next five days and this coupled with increased humidity would rather increase the discomfort,’ the met Director said.

He also said that with change in wind pattern again after five to six days the humidity levels would go down giving way to another round of dry hot weather.

Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar hottest at 43°C, 11 places record temp in excess of 41°C

Ahmedabad: Even as the changed wind pattern has raised humidity levels giving a break to the dry hot weather, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar today remained the hottest places in Gujarat with a joint highest temperature of 43°C.

In all 11 places recorded maximum temperatures in excess of 41°C.

With the rise in humidity the dry hot feeling has been replaced by humid hotness and increased perspiration. Met department has held changed wind pattern (from earlier northwesterly to southwesterly) responsible for sudden rise in humidity. Though no rain has been predicted owing to this for the next five days. In Ahmedabad the maximum temperature was 1.1 degree above normal however the minimum temperature at 25.6 °C was 1.5 °C below normal mainly owing to increased humidity which was as high as 62% in the morning time.
However owing to humidity though the discomfort has somewhat increased yet there won’t also be any severe heat-wave due to this in the coming few days. The dry heat spell is likely to return after a week with reversal of wind pattern to Northerly to Northwesterly.

The maximum and minimum temperatures at various places across Gujarat today was as following –
