Govt nod to CEPT University to enroll 50% students from other boards and states

Ahmedabad: Beginning this academic year, CEPT University will admit 50% students from across the country in the Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Interior Design and Bachelor of Construction Technology programs.

CEPT University received approval from the government confirming the change in the admission notification.

The three undergraduate programs, in Architecture, Interior Design and Construction Technology, are regulated through the Gujarat Professional Technical Educational Colleges or Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fees) Act, 2007. Since some time now, CEPT University had been trying to improve the mix of students in these programs. In 2014, Government of Gujarat had increased the proportion of seats for students from outside Gujarat from 10% (4 seats) to 25% (12 seats).

These 50% (40) seats will not only be open to students from other states, students belonging to other boards in Gujarat will also benefit from this increase. Eligible students will need to apply directly to the University for these seats.

Earlier the admission process used to be conducted only through ACPC, but now with this new decision, CEPT can conduct admissions for outsiders as well, which gives it a chance for more students. Admissions on 40 seats still remains with ACPC and even in the remaining 40 seats which CEPT will be able to admit the students from Gujarat in which the boards other than Gujarat board will have a better chance.

Speaking on this development, Anita Hiranandani, CEPT Registrar said, “This important change would not have been possible without our successful move to being a fully self-financed institute last year. We are thankful to all the faculty members and staff who supported us in that move, which has made this change possible today.”

CEPT statement said the University will be able to take concrete steps in continuing to improve the cosmopolitan nature of the campus.

Dr. Bimal Patel, President of CEPT said, “Having a diverse and cosmopolitan mix of students enhances the learning experience for all students. Some of the best universities have this and we are glad we are moving towards the same. This will open more seats for Gujarat students from other boards.”
