6 nabbed in connection with fleeing of lady Mahant, efforts on to re-arrest her

Ahmedabad: The crime branch of Ahmedabad police has so far nabbed six people including a lady advocate and a policeman in connection with the escapade of the controversial lady Mahant of Mukteshwat temple, Jayshree Giri, who fled yesterday.

However, there were no traces of the lady Mahant as yet.

She was arrested in January this year from her residence in Palanpur city of north Gujarat in connection with a sensational cheating case and was later sent to Sabarnati central jail after over half a dozen such cases were lodged against her. She reportedly went to a Himalaya mall in Drive In area of the city in the afternoon yesterday and then fled from there from washroom after watching Bahubali – 2 movie with police staff and her sevak. CCTV footage of her being the Himalya mall has emerged and was also being investigated along with such footage of the private hospital here where she was under treatment for past around a week after getting temporary bail for 10 days since June 4.

A police official of the crime branch said that a lady advocate and a police man along with four others have been detained in this connection. They were being interrogated. Raids were also being conducted at all possible places of her hiding.

Police control room had received the message regarding her fleeing at 0725 pm last evening. She was brought to Zydus Cadilla hospital situated in Thaltej area close to SG highway some time back from the Sabarmati Jail. This evening she fled, a message from the control room said.

Efforts were on to nab her.

Meanwhile Banskantha SP Neeraj Badgujar said that apart from a murder case there were 8 case of cheating against her in Banaskantha district alone. She was also booked under the prohibition act for possesion of liquor.

Sadhivi Giri, the Mahant of Mukteshwar math Shiv temple, also an accused in the murder case of her predecessor Sajnay Giri in 2008, was deprived of Mahamadaleshwar title and removed from the management of famous Bhavnath temple of Junagadh soon after her arrest.

The 47 year old controversial former head of Mukteshwar Math, situated in Badgam area of Banaskantha district, Sadhvi Giri was arrested in January this year in connection with a cheating case filed by a local jeweler. During a raid in this connection at her residence in Gauri Park Socieity in Paschim police station area of Palanpur, the headquarter town of Banaskantha district, altogether 6300 notes of Rs 2000 denominations worth Rs 1.26 crore, over 3.5 lakh in smaller denominations and 24 gold bars each weighing 100 gms with bottles of liquor were recovered. Notably, the Sadhvi was seen showering Rs 2000 notes on a well known singer during a folk music event (Dyro).
