June 22, 2017
Surat: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today dedicated bio waste to bio energy and food processing plants of Surat Agriculture Produce Market Committee(APMC).
Surat Agricultural Market Produce Committer(APMC) has become the first cooperative society in India to produce organic fertilizer and CNG from fruit and vegetable waste.
APMC untill now was spending R. 5 lakh per month for removal of bio waste. It will now earn at least Rs 10 lakh per month from same waste now.
APMC has already received the order of 40 containers from Dubai and Canada.
According to APMC chairman Ramanbhai, his team visited Chennai based MNRE plant in 2007 and got an idea to set up a waste to energy plant in Surat. However getting permissions from local civic body was difficult initially. Later when tenders were floated, no company came forward for bidding. When government started Swachch Bharat campaign, the project got boost. Funding of Rs 10 crore was received from the Centre and Rs 12,50,000 from the State government for Rs 40.50 crore plant.
Surat APMC market generates 40 mt waste everyday. The plant will produce 2,000 kg CNG, 1600 kg solid and 1600 kg liquid organic fertilizer in addition with 800 kg carbon oxide. APMC will sell Rs CNG for Rs 45 per kg.
As the waste generated within APMC is not enough, the APMC will also purchase additional food waste from restaurants and hotels.
The Chief Minister also dedicated a food processing plant set up at a cost of Rs 27.5 crore which will make pulp of mango, tomato etc. Daily 60 tonne capacity plant will also be able to produce pickle, jam, jelly etc in the size of 20 tonne.
