Life comes to a standstill in rain-hit Amdavad city
July 27, 2017
Ahmedabad: The city had average 5.89 inch rainfall during 12 to 8 am. The highest rainfall was experienced in Maninagar area which was 7.95 inch followed by Vatva at 7.44 inch. Many roads and areas were waterlogged upto knee at most places and upto belly at some low lying areas. Typically when more than 2-3 inch rain occurs in this city, the underground channels carrying rain water through drains become slow. It takes an hour or two post rain to clear the water. It depends on intensity of rain and distance from river where finally all flood water merges. Airport terminal was water logged in the morning. Vehicular traffic including BRTS service was affected due to water logging on roads. Several underpasses were closed for traffic due to water logging. 52 trees were reported in dangerous condition, 29 were uprooted by rain. District Collector had already declared yesterday that all schools are to remain closed today in Ahmedabad city. Vastrapur lake is full of water after months of dryness.
