BJP to take a call on whip for Rajya Sabha polls on August 7: Pankaj Desai
August 01, 2017
Gandhinagar: Ruling BJP in Gujarat would take a call on issuing or not issuing a whip for the August 8 Rajyasabha poll on 3 seats of the state, on August 7 a day before the election, Whip of the party Pankajbhai Desai today said.
He said that even if the party decided to issue one it won’t certainly be a strict 3 liner whip.
Desai said that BJP was not afraid of anything like Congress which was facing big infight and discontent and was not in any kind of hurry about whip like the opposition party.
‘We have more serious things to do. Our MLA’s have been allocated areas for dedicated flood relief work and they are busy with that. They were not going anywhere and we don’t need to flock them either. We will hold a meeting of our legislature party on the day before the election as per the tradition and then take a call on issuing or not issuing a whip, Desai said.
Desai also objected to Congress’ stance on the role of the election commission saying that it seems that the party was frustrated with its own internal bickering and afraid of a possible defeat of its candidate and Sonia Gandhi’s political advisor Ahmed Patel and so it was now trying to question the role of the ECI, which was a completely independent body.
‘During the Congress rule at center, they never questioned its role but now they were not sparing even such a constitutional body,’ he said adding that perhaps they have smelt a possible defeat of their candidate.
