Ahmedabad: Main Opposition Congress in Gujarat has lifted all the earlier restrictions on its ticket aspirants for coming assembly elections in the state like age bar of 70 years, no two consecutive defeats and losing an earlier poll with a margin of more than 20,000 votes in the past.
Confirming this, Gujarat Congress president and former union minister Bharatsinh Solanki said that now ‘win-ability’ was the only criteria for selection of a candidate.
Notably, Congress which was pinning hope this time around on support from the so-called aggrieved section of the Patidar community associated with Hardik Patel led quota stir to regain power in the state after over two decades has reportedly taken the decision to do-away with the restrictions as these were coming in the way of giving tickets to some anti-BJP Patidar faces like Babu Magukiya and Jeetu Patel.
Solanki, however, said that the restrictions were lifted as a general decision. ‘We want our candidates to win. So restrictions have been lifted. Now winabilty was the only criteria,’ he said.
