December 11, 2017
Ahmedabad:
Legal action will be taken against PAAS leader Hardik Patel for holding a road-show in the city without proper permission today.
Police Commissioner A K Singh today said that Hardik was allowed only to hold a public meeting and not a road show.
‘We are looking at available legal recourse in this matter,’ he said.
He also clarified that the permission to BJP (PM Modi) and Congress (Rahul Gandhi) road shows in the city was not given but it was not a unilateral decision.
‘The EC in its fresh guidelines of January 2017 has clearly said that road-shows should not be allowed at the cost of public convenience and it should not be allowed to cross from areas close to hospitals and crowded public places. These should be allowed mostly on holidays. Public convenience has been made the supreme concern while taking a decision about road-shows and rallies,’ he said.
Both BJP and Congress were apprised about it and they agreed. We did not sort of imposed our decision unilaterally. The other issue was that the routes of both the proposed road-shows coincided in several areas, Singh said.
PM Modi show was to held from Dharnidhar here to Bapunagar while Rahul’s road show was to start from Jagannath temple in Jamalpur to Memco area in the city.
Hardik on the other hand took out a rally from Ghuma to Nikol without permission. A tense scene was created in Bapunagar when incident of stone pelting close to local BJP office prompted police to interfere quickly and control the situation.
