29 rounded up by police during night-long raids in connection with attack on lady cop Manjita Vanzara

Police has rounded up 29 people in connection with the incident of attack on lady DySP rank police officer and daughter of former DIG D G Vanzara, Ms Manjita Vanzara who had sustained fracture in hand yesterday in Kasba area of Kadi town in Mahesana district when the supporters of a criminal Hanif Kadarbhai and his two accomplices.

Police said that a case against a mob of 100 people under sections 307, 333, 332, 143, 147, 148, 149, 224, 225, 186 and section 3 of Damage to public property act was lodged in this connection.

Ms Vanzara, SDPO Mahesana, had taken criminal Hanif and two others for panchnama in connection with an incident of loot in which the trio was accused in Kasba area when the incident happened. He vehicle was also damaged in stone pelting.

She was admitted in a private hospital in Kadi and was later released.

Police said that the three accused of loot had also attempted escape during the incident but could not succeed. After the night long combing 29 persons have been detained in this connection and they were being interrogated. Those found involved in the incident would be arrested.

Attempts to nab others in this connection were also on.

SP Mahesana Chaitanya Mandalik said that among those gathered for panchnama were supporters of Hanif who incited them to attack the lady officer.
