50 electric buses to be put on BRTS route; no hike in fare
March 21, 2018
Ahmedabad:
There won’t be any increase in the fares of the BRTS buses in the city, Mayor Gautam Shah today said.
He also said that Letter of Intent (LOI) for 50 electric buses for running on the BRTS routes has been issued under the permission of union government.
Shah, after the board meeting of Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd, a special purpose vehicle under the AMC, said that a decision in the meeting was taken that the fares of Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) buses won’t be increased as it would put additional burden on the pockets of commoners.
He also said that tender was floated for the plying of pollution free electric buses on BRTS corridor in the past but as the lowest bid was high, it was re-tendered and later negotiated at the rate of Rs 40.80 per km (electricity charges to be borne by Janmarg ltd). Now the LOI has been issued for running 50 such buses at this rate.
