Gujarat HC quashes govt rule barring deemed univ students from applying for PG Medical seats under 50% state quota
May 07, 2018
Ahmedabad:
The Gujarat high court today quashed the state government rule which did not allow students of deemed universities to applying for admission to medical post graduation courses under the provision of 50% state quota.
The division bench led by Chief Justice R Subhash Reddy termed the rule 4(2) of the Gujarat Professional Post Graduate Medical Educational Courses (Regulation of Admission) Rules, 2018, illegal and arbitrary and allowed the deemed university students to apply for admission in medical courses under the seats reserved for pupils from Gujarat.
The regulation allowed only those students to apply for PG medial seats who had completed MBBS or BDS from an university recognized by the state government. Some students had challenged the validity of the rule in the court.
They had been denied admission under the quota for being students of deemed university in spite of fulfilling all the other criteria.
