Palanpur:
One person has been nabbed by Palanpur taluka police in Banskantha district of North Gujarat for making a man shave off his moustache for allegedly using surname ‘Sinh’ with his name and making the video of it viral on the social media.
PI A Y Patel today said that the incident had taken place on May 27. One Ranjit Thakor had printed his name as Ranjitsinh Thakore in the invite for a religious ceremony in the family.
‘According to the complaint lodged by him under sections 323, 153 (A), 341, 504, 506 (2) and 114 of the IPC, one Harpalsinh Dabhi and Mayursinh Dabhi (both Darbar by caste) and two other unknown had beaten him up and made him shave off his moustache and also threatened him using indecent language,’ he said.
‘We have nabbed Mayursinh and trying to arrest the other three accused,’ he said.
About a query that earlier some members of the same Thakor community as that of the complainant were arrested among whom a minor boy was also included, the PI said that there was also some issue between the two groups of Thakors but they have refused to lodge any complaint in this regard and those nabbed have been released.
The PI also said that the complainant said that despite the misbehaviour with him he did not want to file a police complaint in this regard but was doing so only because the video of the incident went viral.
Earlier SP Neeraj Badgujar said that the acts which spread hatred among communities won’t be allowed. Strict action would be taken against the culprits.
