Child labourers living in pitiable and inhuman conditions liberated from Rajkot based Gopal Dairy

Rajkot: In a raid conducted by Social Defense department team along with Thorana police, 15-20 child labourers were liberated. The children are from other states. They are believed to have trafficked by agents. The children were kept in inhuman and pitiable conditions. They were given small rooms without fan for co-living. Their common toilet had no door. The room, they were given for living was stinking due to lack of proper sanitation. The children were working with machines in dairy’s packaging unit of cooperative sector Gopal Dairy. It is believed that some of children escaped the place during raid. Child labourers are brought from other states because they can be forced to work for negligible payment for long hours. Past incidents suggest that such children are separated from their parents living in eastern India’s rural belt through kidnapping or fake promises. In another incident, 24 child laborers were liberated from imitation jewellery unit in Shyamnagar area by a task force of district administration. The imitation jewellery unit was run exclusively by women.
