IPL betting racket- accused woman, native of Gujarat, nabbed by Indore police from Ahmedabad airport

Ahmedabad/Indore:

The cyber cell of Indore police in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh has nabbed a woman, native of North Gujarat in connection with sensational IPL betting case from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel international airport here.

PI of Sardarnagar police station R N Virani today said that Poonam Chaudhary, a native of Radhanpur was nabbed yesterday while she was going to board a flight. She was handed over to the Indore police.

Indore police was in search of Poonam and her engineer husband Haresh in connection with the betting case which was registered last month after busting of an international IPL betting racket that was running operation worth crores of rupees.

The racket, reportedly, worked by stealing live telecast of the matches.

This way they learnt about events happening on the ground, 8 seconds prior to TV telecast. They did betting on two IPL matches played in Holkar stadium in Indore last month. The people involved in this racket stole the live feeds of matches 8 seconds before its streaming on tv live telecast. This prior knowledge helped them place bets in crores of rupees as well as lure others by offering them tips. The gang owned a website called ‘cbtfmagicbox.in’, where the abbreviation of CBTF was cricket betting tips for free. The racket was busted after Star India, the official broadcaster of the IPL, lodged a complaint. One of the accused was caught stealing live footage using state-of-the-art technology. A case under various sections of the Information Technology Act and IPC was registered.

Ankit Jain, an alleged agent, was arrested in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha town last month. He was in contact with the kingpin Amit Majithia, also a native of Gujarat, who is believed to be in Dubai. The other accused include Hitesh Khushlani, a Mumbai based builder and Haresh Chaudhary and his wife Poonam (who has been nabbed).
