Forward March of Monsoon slowed down, now, not likely to reach Gujarat before time
June 11, 2018
Ahmedabad:
The forward march of South West Monsoon towards Gujarat has slowed down and the chances of its arrival in this western state before its normal time of June 15 this year as well have almost ended.
Director of the IMD center here and senior meteorologist Jayant Sarkar today said that in the next five days only the extreme southern region of Gujarat can expect some light to moderate rainfall. So there were no chances of arrival of monsoon in the next five days.
He said that almost whole of Gujarat would see cloudy to partly cloudy skies especially during first half of the day due to strong westerly to south westerly winds prevailing up to a height of 1.5 km bringing enough moisture from the sea. ‘But with the rise of the day the clouds at many places would disappear. There would be decrease in maximum temperatures. We don’t expect any worth mentioning rain in North Gujarat, Saurashtra or Kutch in the next five days,’ the met director added.
Notably, the arrival of monsoon in Gujarat was earlier expected to be a bit early. Last year it had made entry in South Gujarat on June 12.
Meanwhile, some of the southern districts today saw light to moderate rain while thundershowers or light rain was also witnessed in some other areas including North Gujarat region.
