‘Chirharan’ like scene witnessed during taluka panchayat president election in Bodeli of Gujarat

In what is being termed as the ‘Chirharan’ (unclothing) of democracy, a woman member of a taluka panchayat in tribal dominant Chhota Udepur district had to face an embarrassing situation during election of the president and vice president of the local body.

Member of Bodeli taluka panchayat Vinitaben was virtually undressed during a tug of war like situation between Congress and BJP.

Vinitaben, a congress member had decided to support BJP during the election today. When she expressed her desire to seat with BJP members before voting, several congress members started pulling her towards them. Some of the BJP members also tried to pull her to their side. In this pulling and pushing and scuffle her cloth unfastened.

However the situation was somehow controlled and BJP managed to win the election and snatch the local body from Congress with support of Vinitaben.

In the 26 member local body BJP candidates got 14 votes.

Later Vinitaben also lodged a complaint against Congress members and also particularly against one member of the party Amrut Rathi whom she alleged had misbehaved with her and put his hands over her chest.
