Deadline for schools to approach FRC as per SC instruction to justify fee structure ends today
July 31, 2018
Gandhingar:
Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama today said that those private schools who won’t put forth their side in the Fee Regulation Committee (FRC) as per the Supreme Court instruction would face the music.
The Schools which have not approached the FRC constituted as per the provisions of the Gujarat Self Financed Schools (Regulation of Fees) Act, 2017 to justify their higher fee structures than prescribed ones have been asked by the apex court to file replies to the FRC by July 31 ie today. The FRC is to accept it till 10 pm tonight.
Chudasama said that several schools which had not approached the FRC earlier on have come to it with written submissions and those who did not do so after the expiry of the deadline would certainly face action.
To a query he however said that as the matter was still in the Supreme Court the state government was not in a position to initiate action in this matter at its own.
Notably the bill, which was passed by the Gujarat assembly in March last year has been trapped in a legal tangle between the government, guardians and school operators. After the apex court’s intervention the state government has put forth the maximum fee proposal for primary, secondary and higher secondary school at Rs 15,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000 per yea. Those charging above this will have to justify it in the FRC.
