Monsoon break getting longer, no forecast regarding good rain in next one week

Gandhinagar: Break in monsoon season at present is not likely to end soon. It is likely to continue at least till August 8. Till then, monsoon activities are likely to remain limited to North Eastern parts of India, Himalayan foothills and the State of Uttar Pradesh.

This is bad news, because all India rainfall deficiency is at 6%. The situation of crop failure is very likely in many areas including rural Gujarat and interior Maharshtra. Weakened monsoon is due to suppressed convective phase of the MJO (Madden-Julian-Oscillation) over the Indian Ocean along with El Nino like atmospheric-oceaning coupling.

Kharif sowing in 1,33,964 hectare area is vulnerable in Gujarat if 10-day long break in monsoon go longer beyond next 7 to 10 days.

As per the Gujarat office of IMD, light rain, thunderstorm is likely at isolated places in Gujarat region in next five days.

Gujarat has received 54.17% of total average seasonal rainfall so far. The worst situation is in Kutch region that has received only 11.08% rainfall. North Gujarat region has received only 28.27% rainfall.

Surendranagar, Morbi, Devbhumi Dwarka, all districts of North Gujarat, the district of Ahmedabad are among large rain deficient areas so far during the monsoon.
