System over bay of Bengal weakens: light to moderate rain in parts of South and East Central Gujarat
August 08, 2018
Ahmedabad:
Even though the depression over head bay of Bengal has weakened yet some light to moderate rain is being witnessed in parts of Gujarat today.
By 2 pm today Umerpada in Surat district has seen the maximum of around 18mm. Sagbara in Narmada district, Mangrol in Surat and Wagahi in Dangs have seen around 6 mm each.
Parts of Ahmedabad city has also seen light rain including in areas like SG highway, Naranpura, Shahalam, Vejalpur etc.
IMD center Ahmedabad Director and senior meteorologist Jayanta Sarkar said that the system for rain was not so strong but some light to moderate rain is expected today and tomorrow in South and East Central Gujarat. ‘The depression has weakened in to a well marked low pressure area but still there will be some rain though we should not expect any heavy rain. After two days the rain will stop till a new system is developed,’ he added.
Notably, the state government has termed the water availability situation as somewhat grim in the wake of long break in monsoon rain in the state after initial good downpour.
If the Monsoon takes a longer break it would create more difficulties especially farmers of the state who, however, have got a relief from the state government in the form of extended hours of electricity supply.
