Latest spell of monsoon likely to take another break from tomorrow, system causing it become ‘less marked’

Ahmedabad:

The system which has caused heavy to very heavy rainfall across Gujarat in last 48 hours is causing some good rain in Kutch and adjoining region today but it has become ‘less marked’ (weakened) now and this much awaited spell of Monsoon is likely to take a break from tomorrow.

‘The system has become less marked now and the rainfall activity will drop drastically from tomorrow,’ IMD center Ahmedabad Director Jayant Sarkar said today.

He said that the system as expected has shifted towards Kutch and adjoining Saurashtra region and weakened. However, due to an east-west shear zone Kutch, Morbi, Surendranagar etc would see some spells of heavy rain today.

Meanwhile, by 12 pm this noon 84 talukas have seen light to heavy rain with Anjar in Kutch district seeing maximum 99 mm and Gandhidham 96mm, Dhrangadhra in Surendranagar has seen 41mm, Waghai in Dangs 41 mm, Chuda in Surendranagar and Maila Miyana in Morbi 40 mm each.

In the last 24 hours, 32 of 33 districts and 233 of 251 talukas have seen rain with Kapadvanj recording maximum 150mm. The fresh spell has given some lease of life to the dams across the state and taken the average monsoon rain figure to over 62%.
