Vadodara:
The Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam reservoir, the lifeline of Gujarat’s water supply, has seen a rise of a little less than 3 meters in last 2 days due to the latest spell of monsoon rain and is still rising.
According to the Narmada project’s control room here, the water level has gone up to 113.82 meters by 1 pm this afternoon.
‘The water level had started rising from 5 am yesterday when it was at 111.08 m. By 8 am today it was 113.57m. Now the inflow is 56415 cusec and outflow is only 3610 cusec so the water level is continuously rising,’ an official of the SSNNL said.
He said that the live storage in the all important dam is 341.66 MCM today.
However despite rise in level, for appropriate water storage the river-bed hydoro electric unit has not been started and only one of the five units of canal bed hydel unit was on.
Notably, due to latest spell of rain in the catchment areas of river Narmda in Chhatisgarh and Madhya Pradesh and other other rivers like Tapi in Maharashtra, the water level in other important dams like Ukai and Panam have also seen good rise.
