Ahmedabad:
The monsoon after its recent much-needed spell in Gujarat, which has given a new lease of life to the water storage in the state, is likely to take another break from tomorrow in the absence of any strong system.
However, the good news is that it might get active again in a week as another low pressure area is likely to form over Bay of Bengal from August 26.
Notably the recent spell of monsoon has caused over 13 % of seasonal rain in just a matter of around a week and taken the rain figure from 55% to over 68%.
IMD center Director Jayanta Sarkar today said that there might be some rain today in Gujarat region and Kutch but its quantity will decrease substantially from tomorrow. ‘For the next five days our forecast is only light to moderate rain. Currently there was a cyclonic circulation over South West Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat at 3.1 to 3.8 km from the mean sea level but it was not so strong to cause any heavy rain.”

‘But there is one low pressure area likely to be formed over bay of Bengal on August 26. If it creates a system which moves towards Gujarat or adjoining areas then againg there will be a good spell of rain,’ he informed.
Today till 2 pm 60 talukas in the state have seen light to moderate rain with maximum 30 mm in Umerpada of Surat district. Gandevi in Navsari has seen 15mm and Kamrej in Surat and Subir in Dangs 12 mm each. In the last 24 hours ending 7am this morning a total of 31 districts and 146 talukas had seen rain of which the maximum was 60 mm in Rajkot. So far the state has seen 68.3% of its monsoon rain.
