Some increase in rain activities in parts of Gujarat on September 8, 9

Ahmedabad:

Amid the concerns of poor show of Monsoon in several parts of Gujarat, the met today said that there was no likelihood of any good rain anytime soon but due to a low pressure area of bay of Bengal, on September 8 and 9 some increase in rainfall activities in South Gujarat and South Eastern Saurashtra is expected.

Director of IMD center here, Jayanta Sarkar said that there won’t be much rain now. For the next 5 days we can expect only light to moderate rainfall at isolated places and on 8th and 9th September the rainfall activities in Southern region and South East Saurashtra would increase to some extent.

‘This can be attributed to the low pressure area over bay of Bengal which otherwise won’t cause any heavy rainfall in the western state. There was another cyclonic circulation over South West Rajasthan and adjoining areas at a height of 3.1 to 4.5km from the mean sea level but it was also not productive so far as any good amount of rain is concerned,’ he said.

Notably, till 7am today the state has witnessed only 73.67 % of the Monsoon season. Kutch region has seen only 26.44%. North Gujarat has also seen only 42.49%. East Central Gujarat has recorded 66.70%, Saurashtra 71.99% and South Gujarat 94.67%.

For the past few day the rain has almost completely stopped. In the last 24 hours only 5 talukas of 3 district had seen light rain with Bavla in Ahmedabad district seeing maximum of only 4 mm.
