Gujarat Government announces changes in Liquor permit rules

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government today announced new rules for health permits of consuming liquor. As per the statement of Minister of State for Home, Pradipsinh Jadeja the new changes to Health permit(liquor permit) rules are following:
– Private doctor’s certificate will not be valid any more.
– Permit will be issued or renewed on the basis of opinion of new Area Medical Board.
– Instead of 26 Area Medical Boards, now only 6 new Area Medical Boards will give opinion for issuance or renewal of permit. They shall be located at Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Rajkot, Surat, Gandhinagar and Vadodara.
– Respective district level applicants will need to undergo zone wise process.
– Area Medical Boards will have regional deputy director, medical superintendent and full time HOD medicine medical college as members. Opinion of all of them will be necessary.
– Health permit processing fee will be Rs 2,000 now. Health check up fee will also be Rs 2,000.
– State Medical board has also been restructured. Additional director of medical services, Gandhinagar medical college’s dean, BJ Medical college Ahmedabad’s head of the department of medicine and deputy director of prohibition and excise will be the members of State Medical Board.
– If any applicant has some issue at zone level, he can file appeal at State Board level and make representation there. Effective fee in such case shall be Rs 5,000.
These changes are announced in the Gujarat Assembly by MoS Jadeja under rule 44.
